Our Purpose

We are ordinary people living in and around Southwark working under the larger Amnesty International umbrella to campaign against human rights injustices throughtout the world. We are a small group looking to expand our active core and our supporter base. So if you're interested in being part of this get in touch (secretary@southwarkai.org.uk) or come along to our next meeting.

Our Campaigns

Of the broad range of campaigns that Amnesty International are currently running we as the Southwark local group have chosen to focus on Control Arms and Stop Violence Against Women. We are also campaigning to highlight some of the issues facing Colombia and Palestine.

Control Arms

The arms trade is out of control and is fuelling conflict, poverty and human rights abuses worldwide. Every government is responsible. Oxfam, Amnesty and the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) are campaigning for a global Arms Trade Treaty to bring the trade in weapons under control.

Stop Violence Against Women

The Stop Violence Against Women campaign focuses on ending violence against women in the family and in conflict/post conflict situations: two of the most dangerous environments for millions of women throughout the world. The creation of a world in which women and girls are afforded their basic human rights is our ultimate goal.
